Thrive Through Transition
Transitions — a new role, a new chapter, a season of uncertainty — test what we stand for. The people who move through change with clarity aren't the ones with the longest list of values. They're the ones who know the two that hold everything else up.
This exercise, drawn from the work of Brené Brown's Dare to Lead and the iPEC Core Energy Coaching framework, will guide you through four moves: explore a broad list, narrow it down, choose your two, and reflect on what living them looks like in practice.
Read through the list and tap every value that feels true to who you are, or who you're becoming. Don't overthink it. If a word catches you, select it.
Of the values you chose, which five matter most? Select your top 5 — the ones you'd protect even if it cost you something to keep them.
Brené Brown's research suggests most of us really only operate from two core values. Not because the others don't matter — they do — but because two is enough to guide every decision. Pick the two you cannot live without.
A value you can't describe in action is just a word. For each of your two values, answer the prompts below. This is where the real work begins.
